Gamestop was e-mailed by Sony today stating that the PS3 shipments to Gamestop stores would be cut back by about 40%. What does this mean? Well if you pre-ordered a PS3 from Gamestop you may have to wait until sometime around Christmas to get your hands on the system. Most Gamestop stores were recieving shipments of about 6 PS3 systems. The 40% cut now cuts that number down to just 4 systems per store. To compensate for this Gamestop has issued an apology of sorts. To those who pre-ordered a PS3 and did not recieve one on the 17th will be offered a free DVD or used game for the value of $19.99 or lower. Gamestop has also stated that employees who buy the system before the pre-orders are fulfilled will be terminated.
Will this shortage plague other retailers? I guess we will see but for now your best bet is to make sure your in the front of whatever line to get the system.
